Origin of Jack-O-lanterns; The Irish brought the tradition of carving pumpkins into Jack O'Lantern to America. But, the original Jack O'Lantern was not a pumpkin. Pumpkins did not exist in Ireland. Ancient Celtic cultures in Ireland carved turnips on All Hallow's Eve, and placed an ember in them, to ward off evil spirits.
We light up the jack-o-lanterns to scare away bad spirits. Step 1: trace and cut out orange paper in the shape of a pumpkin Step 2: cut out eyes and mouth (think about how your jack-o-lantern feels, are they happy? Are they sad? Are they angry?) Step 3: cut out a stem, it can be long or short, curly or straight, cut it out in Green construction paper Step 4: glue eyes, mouth, and stem onto pumpkin in black or yellow paper Step 5:add detail BORN IN DENMARK 1978.
